WPL: Bungoma Queens and Madira Soccer Assassins share spoils in rescheduled fixture

Bungoma Queens were held to a 1-1 draw by Madira Soccer Assassins in a rescheduled round 14 Women Premier League (WPL) match held on Wednesday 25 February at the Bungoma Polytechnic Grounds.

Bungoma went into the match eighth on the log with 21 points ,two more than Madira who were just above the relegation zone.

Bungoma were on the back of mixed results in their three previous matches; winning against Trinity Starlets, a lose to Kayole Starlets and a draw against Gideon Starlets in their previous match.

Madira, on the other side, had recorded back to back wins against Kisped Queens and Kisumu All Starlets before tasting defeat in their previous match against Kibera Soccer Women.

Bungoma, benefitting from home advantage took the lead through a Lilian Nechesa header in the first half,a lead they took to the break.

Madira came back a much stronger side in the second half, and managed to grab an equalizer to ensure the match ends in a draw.

With the result, both Bungoma and Madira retained retained their eighth and ninth positions with 22 and 20 points respectively.

Despite still being in the relegation matrix, they also increased the gap between themselves and Gideon Starlets in the relegation zone who have 16 points.

Lakeside City of Kisumu duo of Kisumu Starlets with -4 points and Kisped Queens with two points more have already been relegated to the Women National Super League (WNSL).

As it stands, Kenya Police Bullets are still at the summit of the 12-team league table with 31 points, one more than second placed Vihiga Queens, while Ulinzi Starlets close the top three with 29 points to their name.

However, Police and Ulinzi have an advantage in the race as they have two games in hand, emanating from their postponed fixtures due to the involvement of their players with the national team.
