Akonnor says the league leaders will channel their frustration into a strong display against their bitter rivals.

We’ll be ready for that match. Of course, this (APS thrashing) is a wake-up call for us. Sometimes we learn from our mistakes, you know, and this was a big blow to us,” the Ghanaian said.

“We didn’t expect that… how we conceded the goals we conceded. But we need to concentrate and move on to our next match.

Gor Mahia were left bruised after a 4-1 clobbering by the law enforcers, despite taking an early lead through George Amonno.

Hansel Ochieng’ delivered a masterclass, punishing the 21-time champions and handing them their second league defeat of the season.

Akonnor accepted full responsibility, admitting that his tactical tweaks failed to deliver the impact he had hoped for.

I am responsible for the results. It’s a very bad result for us. Looking at what we did last week, it was clear that somehow we were not fresh.

We thought the guys we brought into the starting lineup would make an impact. We’ve lost, but we need to go back and keep our heads up,” the former Ghana national team coach said.

He lamented his side’s failure to keep possession and withstand APS Bomet’s relentless pressure.

We started with four, and as a result of the way we were playing, we thought of changing to three at the back to try and put the opponent under pressure. However, we didn’t do well in a lot of things… we didn’t keep the ball well,” he explained.

Despite the setback, Gor remain perched at the top of the FKF Premier League standings on 19 points, one ahead of second-placed Kakamega Homeboyz
