The Magpies have finally celebrated a win after three straight Premier League losses

The final whistle was greeted with massive fans cheers inside St James' Park as the Magpies beat Brentford 1-0 thanks to Callum Wilson's penalty.

Although Newcastle are still not at their fluent best, they celebrated a morale-boosting second win of the season ahead of their midweek Champions League trip to Italy (game against AC Milan).

Eddie Howe's side bounced back from a three-game losing streak thanks to Wilson's winner after Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken had charged off his line and clumsily fouled Anthony Gordon.

Wilson, starting ahead of Alexander Isak, saw a close-range goal harshly disallowed by VAR after he was adjudged to have obstructed Flekken, but his winner arrived only a few minutes later.

Newcastle thought they had another penalty when Bryan Mbeumo handled following an aerial challenge with Harvey Barnes, but VAR again intervened, overruling Pawson because the ball hit the Brentford forward's head before coming down onto his hand.
