Will Salah finally score for Liverpool?

Reading Time: 3min | Sat. 28.02.26. | 15:31

The Egyptian captain hasn't scored in the Premier League since November

It seems that it all started when Mohamed Salah made his famous rant back in December, after a 3-3 draw against Leeds. Unhappy with his third consecutive start from the bench, the Egyptian forward told reporters he had ‘no relationship’ coach Arne Slot. The undisputed Liverpool star was not in the team for the following game before returning to the bench for the Premier League win over Brighton in December, where the Egyptian made an impressive cameo before linking up with his national team for the Africa Cup of Nations. The crisis has since calmed down, but it’s fair to say that Salah is playing his last months in Liverpool.

It is expected that the Reds will accept Saudi bids in May, considering that the 33-year old star has a contract until 2027 and is not on the level he used to be. He contributed four assists in his last six top-flight outings, and has also scored in the Champions League win over Qarabag and, more recently, the FA Cup triumph over Brighton. But when it comes to the Premier League, things are really worrying. Salah has now gone nine games without scoring and his last goal came in November 2025 against Aston Villa.

"We are used to Mo scoring a lot of goals and at this moment in time that is maybe the biggest difference in his performance and game time. But we also know this has happened before, I don’t know if it happened nine games in a row but I've had these questions earlier if he didn’t score for three or five but I know in the end he always starts scoring again. That is the challenge he has and we have now to make sure he starts scoring again. He is not our only attacker at this moment in time that doesn’t score as much as we are used to. He set his own standards and those are so, so, so high and the moment he doesn’t score for a few games people are immediately surprised - that is the biggest compliment he can get" said Slot.

The Dutch manager has problems with other scorers too. Despite being Liverpool's top scorer this season with 15 goals, Hugo Ekitike hasn't notched in his last four appearances while Cody Gakpo has netted only twice since the 2-0 Premier League win at West Ham back in November. On top of that, Florian Wirz is injured, just as he got back into form. Slot even admitted that he doesn’t know when the German will be back on the field.
