Wijnaldum has to choose: Koeman and famous Barca vs PSG’s millions

In these uncertain times, everything is on the line for Barcelona, even their reputation. The Catalonians are in the middle of a big financial crisis, and failed to win La Liga (or the Champions League) also. The cash strapped Barca had to take a loan to repay a big chunk of debt and they have a limited transfer budget. So limited, that two out of their three new signings are free agents, while the third was part-owned by Barca anyway. Two more signings are in the works, and both players are free agents. It’s that bad at Camp Nou.

Georginio Wijnaldum was all but signed, he was mentioned as one of the first players long before Aguero for example, but now, new problems arise. Barca’s new worst enemy, Paris Saint Germain, decided to interfere and try to hijack the Dutchman from Barca’s hands. What was 99% sure just yesterday is not so sure today. PSG made a serious offer to Wijnaldum’s agent, one which cash strapped Catalonians can’t match, so it’s their reputation on the line: great Barca and it’s history (along with a Dutch coach Ronald Koeman), vs rich PSG offer.

According to Catalunya’s „Sport“, Wiynaldum is now closer to France than Spain. The reason is a more generous offer from the capital of France, and the impression is that the Dutchman will change direction at the last minute, thus leaving Ronald Koeman without the desired reinforcement. There were doubts if he would fit into Barca's style of play, but Koeman still insisted on hiring his compatriot, who, after entering the last few months of his contract, became interesting to numerous clubs across Europe.

At the moment, Wiynaldum is focused on performances in the national team, he wants to leave a good impression at the European Championship and help the Netherlands achieve the best possible result. As he himself stated, he put his destiny in the hands of agents, who apparently were seriously warmed up for the rich offer from the Princes' Park.

With free agent acquisitions Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia already in claret and blue shirts, Barca is close to agreeing terms with another (!) free agent, Memphis Depay. Will they add the fourth one, remains to be seen. If Wiynaldum really leaves everything to his agents, Paris will be his destination. Don’t forget, agents get big bonuses too.
