Why Tusker loss to Bidco left Blackberry happy

Tusker FC midfielder George Odhiambo explains why the loss to Bidco United left him a happy man.

Former Gor Mahia midfielder George Blackberry Odhiambo revealed that Tusker’s loss to Bidco United last month was a silver lining in a dark cloud as it served as a wake-up call to the side.

Bidco stunned Tusker 2-1 to end their 12 games unbeaten streak, a run that had seen them open up a decent buffer over second placed KCB at the summit of the table.

Odhiambo noted that the loss was a blessing in disguise and despite the club’s hierarchy being dejected he was chuffed by the loss.

“After the loss to Bidco, everyone was angry but for me somehow I felt it was good for us because it was a wake-up call to everyone. Losing that game gave everyone a picture of just how painful it is to lose a match and we managed to bounce back and win against Ulinzi.”

“Mentally, it made us stronger and I believe we are now cautious moving to each new game because we don’t want to drop any points,” said Odhiambo speaking to Tusker FC media.

Odhiambo has mostly been used as an impact substitute by coach Robert Matano coming on in the second half and getting the job done with Tusker FC winning most of their games in the second half.

Tusker’s last game came 15 days ago with the former Randers midfielder welcoming the much-needed respite, admitting that fatigue started creeping into the team and spoke about their next clash against Nairobi City Stars.

“It has been a welcome break and the rest has been good for us. Fatigue had begun to catch up with us but now we hope we can be fresher for City Stars and the focus is now back 100pc.”

“I haven’t watched City Stars this season but from what we have been told by the coaches, they are a good and tough team. Every match for us now is like a final and we mist focus on picking three points,” added Odhiambo.

Tusker face Nairobi City Stars at Kasarani on Saturday 20 March with the game slated for a 1 PM kick-off.
