The tactician believes the team is heading in the right direction following a difficult opening spell that had sparked questions
Tusker FC assistant coach George Maina has expressed satisfaction with the team’s recent improvement, noting that the Brewers are beginning to find consistency after a shaky start to the 2025–26 Kenyan Premier League season.
After suffering defeats in their opening two matches against KCB FC and Posta Rangers, the 12-time league champions have steadied the ship and are now unbeaten in five games, having recorded two wins and three draws.
The run has lifted them to seventh place on the table with nine points.
Maina believes the team is heading in the right direction following a difficult opening spell that had sparked questions about the technical bench led by head coach Charles Okere.
“There are so many positives to pick from and we are pleased with the effort the players gave today. We have picked seven points from three games in one week with a lot of travel involved, and that is a great effort from the team.
You could see how we fought for every ball and how hungry everyone was to get a win today,” Maina told the club’s official website.
On Sunday afternoon, Tusker were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw with Kakamega Homeboyz at the Bukhungu Stadium after conceding a late equalizer.
Substitute Dennis Oalo had put the Brewers ahead in the second half, finishing clinically after being set up by Fabian Adikiny, who won possession high up the pitch.
However, with just a minute left on the clock, Oliver Majaka capitalised on a loose ball at the edge of the box to score the leveller and deny Tusker their third consecutive win.
Despite the setback, Maina praised the players’ resilience and overall performance.
“It was really unfortunate to concede late in the game in a situation we had worked hard to avoid. I think we deserved more from this game looking at how we played.
We executed our game plan well and managed to contain most of the danger areas,” he said.
Tusker created several chances throughout the match. Striker Erick Kapaito forced the Homeboyz keeper into a smart save in the first half, while Dennis Oguta narrowly missed with a header from a Dennis Iguma cross.
Goalkeeper Brian Opondo also impressed, making crucial saves to keep Tusker in the contest.
Maina is now looking ahead to their next fixture against Bidco United on Friday, confident that the team can build on their improved form.
“If we maintain this momentum and focus, the results will keep coming,” he added.
