Junior Starlets had won the first leg of the final round of the qualifiers 2-0 last week in Pretoria.

Despite South Africa missing a place in the World Cup, Khumalo chose to focus on the positives from the tie.

“Our journey has ended today but for the country, this is a pathway because there are girls below 15 years who will be back again and I believe these lessons will help them to grow as better players,” said Khumalo.

The Bantwana team included Farah Thomas and Othandwayo Zondani who are aged 15. The duo is eligible for two more World Cup editions as well as 10 other players aged 16.

Nonetheless, Khumalo sung Kenya's praises, noting that the Junior Starlets were the better team over the two legs.

“I want to congratulate Kenya. They totally deserve it. After losing in the first leg at home, we knew it was going to be very difficult far away from home and I am grateful the girls did their best,” she stated.

In the Sunday afternoon clash, Bantwana took the lead in the fifth minute through captain Katlego Malebana before a spectacular comeback by Kenya in the second half.

Gaudencia Maloba (70’), Brenda Awuor (85’) and Elizabeth Opiyo (90’) were all on target for Kenya.
