Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, has expressed strong belief that APS Bomet will beat the drop in their maiden FKF Premier League campaign.

The sprinter insisted that the club has laid a solid foundation despite their current struggles.

APS Bomet, who are playing their first-ever season in the top flight, sit 16th on the 18-team table with 14 points from 16 matches.

They most recently held Mara Sugar FC to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, 10 January, and face a daunting test next against joint-league leaders AFC Leopards on Saturday, 17 January at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Omanyala, who is a board member at the club, noted that the league position does not reflect the work being done behind the scenes. He explained that the club is focused on long-term stability rather than short-term success.

“I am confident about APS Bomet because, even though this is our first season in the top league, we have been working hard to ensure the team stands on a strong foundation,” he offered.

There have been changes in the technical bench, but we also have a very capable chairperson in Bishop Akama, who previously served as chair of Kenya Police and did an excellent job there,” he continued.

The Mozzart Bet-backed side recently appointed experienced tactician Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo, a move Omanyala believes will be key to their survival hopes.

Omollo was officially unveiled on Wednesday, 31 December, in a brief ceremony where club CEO Rose Chemutai presented him with the team's jersey. He went on to oversee his first training session a day after the squad returned from the festive break.

His appointment ended weeks of speculation following his exit from Posta Rangers, where he had been placed on a 30-day terminal leave on November 28 before his contract expired on December 31.

Omollo’s move to Bomet had been widely expected after he was spotted engaging club officials, including Chemutai and board chairman Akama, during APS Bomet’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Gor Mahia in November 2025.

Despite delaying an official announcement at the time, APS Bomet earned praise across the football fraternity for standing by Omollo during a difficult personal period following the loss of his wife, Vera.

Omollo brings vast experience to the dugout, having previously coached Posta Rangers, Gor Mahia, Shabana, and Kenya Police. It is this pedigree that Omanyala believes will steady the club during a crucial phase of the season.

We are working with a three-year plan. The last three to four months have been about setting everything up and ensuring the team is stable. So far, so good.

Our main goal this season is stability and surviving relegation, which I strongly believe we will achieve. Although we have faced some challenges in a few matches, I am confident the team will pick up,” he averred.

The Bomet-based outfit has already begun reinforcing their squad, completing the signings of striker Philemon Nyakwaka from KCB FC and defender Hillary Wandera from Gucha Stars.

The board chairman confirmed that they are still in the market for additional reinforcements, including a goalkeeper.

“We are also planning to sign more players, not just under coach Pamzo, and I believe that will make us even stronger.

We are facing some financial challenges, which is why the focus remains on stabilising the team, but everything else is on course,” Omanyala revealed.

One performance that continues to fuel belief within the camp is APS Bomet’s stunning 4-1 demolition of Gor Mahia on November 25, 2025, arguably their best showing of the season. Hansel Ochieng struck a memorable brace, with Rodgers Kipkemoi adding the fourth.

“I remember following the 4–1 win over Gor Mahia live, and I was very proud of the boys. It was a huge confidence booster and a proud moment for the board as well.

We are excited about watching this team grow, and the next three years are going to be very interesting for us,” Omanyala recalled.
