Why Okere was axed from Starlets job

Okere briefly took over from Alumira at Vihiga Queens with the reverse happening at Harambee Starlets.
The Football Kenya Federation Caretaker Committee on Monday 25 January appointed Alex Alumira as the new Harambee Starlets head coach and revealed why Charles Okere was shown the door.
Okere was appointed as the Starlets head coach back in April after David Ouma was unceremoniously sacked with the previous regime revealing that the decision was made on grounds of mutual consent.

Kenya Police FC head coach John Bobby Ogolla who also sits on the Caretaker Committee noted that their efforts to have Okere interviewed for the job were unsuccessful.
“Oftentimes Kenyan coaches are just appointed they don’t go through a lot of processes but this one has taken long because we tried to call the former coach and he delayed getting back to us. He had not decided whether he will come or he will not come but later on we saw that we are losing time and we decided to put the position vacant but we also called him for the interview that we had shortlisted 12 coaches,” said Ogolla.

The former Gor Mahia assistant coach added that they initially had a shortlist of 12 coaches that was whittled down to five after which Alumirah was selected having impressed the selection panel.
Ali Amour who is part of the Caretaker Committee opened up on why a Harambee Stars coach has not been named, almost two months after Engin Firat’s contract elapsed.
“There is a process in everything and in a process, there is an urgency which in this case was Starlets because they have an opportunity to go to the AFCON if they beat Uganda.
Right now there is no urgency for a Harambee Stars team coach that why we start down and put the strategies in place, in terms of Stars if we are still within our mandate will take the same procedure and if we are not then we will recommend the procedure,” said Amour.
