KCB FC assistant captain Brian 'Rio' Ochieng is optimistic that squad depth will be key to the club's success this season.

The Bankers lead the 18-team league standings with ten points after Match Week 4 of the 2024-25 FKF Premier League season.

The holding midfielder noted that their lack of depth from the previous season proved costly during the 2023-24 season, as they finished in the bottom half of the log and went trophyless.

"I am certain we will have an impressive season because we have good squad depth, unlike last season where we struggled because of the thin squad," he remarked.

During the off-season transfer window, the Patrick Odhiambo-coached side added former Prisoners FC midfielder Joshua Nyatini, Harambee Stars goalkeeper Boniface Munyasa, defender Lameck Oloo from Bidco United.

Other signings included midfielders Dennis Maruti and Matthew Agal from Murang'a Seal and Nairobi United and forwards Patrick Otieno, James Kinyajui, and Francis Khairo from Posta Rangers and Bandari, respectively.

The club was also buoyed by the return of seasoned midfielder and captain Michael Mutinda, who had been sidelined for a season due to injury.

Ochieng believes that the new acquisitions and the return of Mutinda have given stability, which was lacking in the previous season.

"The team made good signings in all sectors, demonstrating the difference this season. We have players in every position who can compete regardless of who plays, and this was our weakness last season," said the former FC Talanta midfielder.

The 2024 Mozzart Bet Cup finalists struggled to score goals in the previous season under coach Bernard Mwalala, a situation that has changed dramatically as they have already scored seven goals this season.

Rio, as he is widely referred to by his peers, also believes that the return of striker Francis Khairo will help the club perform admirably. Since his return from Bandari, the former FC Talanta forward has scored four times.

"Last campaign we really struggled to score goals, which impacted our results, but with the return of Khairo, I am confident he will be vital upfront in posting excellent results, just as he has demonstrated in the opening four matches of the season," he concluded.
