The league gets a new champion in four seasons as Vihiga Queens have dominated the last three seasons.

It is a Kiambu derby in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) with Gaspo Women chasing their first league crown while Thika Queens are hoping for the title they lost to Vihiga Queens three seasons ago.

The two sides have faced each other in this season's Zone A regular league with Thika dominating the fixture with identical 2-1 outcomes home and away.

In both matches, Gaspo opened the scoring with Thika netting late goals for the win. Previous encounters between the two sides have produced just one win for Gaspo, a 4-3 outcome in the 2019 season that Thika struggled to finish the season in fourth place. The second encounter of the 2019 season, hosted by Thika, ended in a draw.

En route to the final, Thika finished top of the zone and got a bye to the semi-final where they faced Nakuru West Queens winning 4-1.

On their part, Gaspo Women finished second in Zone A and faced Wadadia in the quarters. They went on to beat ten-man defending champions Vihiga on post-match penalties for a slot in the final.

Coach Ayub Inziani, since joining Gaspo mid-season has maintained that the title is Gaspo's to lose while Benta Achieng of Thika says it will be an enjoyable final and the trophy is finally back to Zone A.
