Whether you're red or white, it's all about tradition tonight! This is much more than a Champions League final

Football history without those two would be like a king without the crown, like The Beatles without Lenon, like the sun without a shine

Imagine being given the assignment to explain football and its magic attraction in only three words.

Let's play the game...

'Greatest game ever'

'More than sports'

'Larger than life'

And so on and so on. Sure, those are legit responses, but there's one even more accurate and a bit awkward at first sight. Yet, highly rightful.

'Liverpool, Real Madrid'. Just like that. Those two clubs could serve as a synonym for football due to their unbelievable significance, tradition and importance for the last six or seven decades.

Whether you're the Reds or the Royals supporter, you got to give to the other side for being one of the very few powerhouses from that very top drawer. Even if you hate them both, it doesn't make any difference.

Erasing Liverpool or Real Madrid from the history of this game would be a monstrous crime that would see football losing its roots. Basis. Foundation. Excellency.

It's not just the Champions League final - which is scheduled to kick off at Stade de France in Paris at 10 PM - it's the battle of all the battles. Like The Beatles vs The Stones, Al Pacino vs Robert De Niro, Djokovic vs Federer, MJ vs Kobe, Pele vs Maradona...

The most defining duel of our time and all previous times and lives. Those 19 Champions League/European Cup trophies they've won altogether tell their own story.

And there's no need to explain 'who is who', when for every Salah, Mane and Benzema, there's Owen, Gerrard, and Ronaldo (Nazario da Lima, and Cristiano). For every Henderson and Modric, there's Xabi Alonso and Zidane. For every VVD and Marcelo, there's Carragher and Roberto Carlos. And we could go on like that all the way to Dalglish, Shankley, Di Stefano, Puskas and the whole gang of greats involved in the creation of the two larger-than-life myths. Institutions. Synonyms. Liverpool and Real Madrid. Football.

Let's enjoy this mouthwatering showdown.
