Paul Pogba talked about his African upbringing

Paul Pogba was born and raised in France, but has strong roots in Guinea. His parents came from Africa to France but kept all the African values in their new home. In-trouble Juventus midfielder talked about his personal life in an interview for Al Jazeera and mentioned that the African values are also implemented in his own family. Hours after the interview, it was reported that he was found positive for testosterone and is now facing a four year ban from football and almost certain release from Juventus.

My parents are from Guinea, they went to France but the culture was the same, African. I was with my brothers and two cousins so we were five. I was raised with big values and hard work. They came to France, there was racism, but it made me stronger and ready for life. When my children don’t behave well, I tell them I’ll take them to Guinea so they can see the real values of life. We try to keep the value of respect, take care, and finish all the food because we are lucky we have everything here in Europe. In Africa is not the same” Pogba explained.

With so many problems in his life recently (injuries, alleged kidnapping and extortion), Pogba, a devoted Muslim, found his piece in religion.

Religion has helped me so much. This is what keeps me humble, stay out of the media and fame and go back to reality. This is part of the mental strength that keeps me going” he explained.

Alleged kidnapping and extortion case shook him up pretty badly, and he admits that at one point, he contemplated retirement.

Money changes people. … It can break up a family. It can create a war. Sometimes I was just by myself thinking, ‘I don’t want to have money anymore. I just don’t want to play anymore. I just want to be with normal people, so they will love me for me – not for the fame, not for the money.’ Sometimes it’s tough“ he admitted. And now he will have more problems, if the repeated test shows he is positive to testosterone.
