Pogba positive for testosterone, could face a four year ban

Reading Time: 2min | Mon. 11.09.23. | 19:41

Italian media are reporting that it happened after the league opener against Udinese

Paul Pogba came back to Manchester United triumphantly in 2016 for 105 million euros. Juventus made a deal of the century, since they got him on a free transfer from United’s U21 four years back. He made a career in Torino, became the French international and went back to Old Trafford full of optimism. He failed miserably and came back to Juventus as a free player (again) in 2022. He was happy again and the club was happy to have him back, but he has been even worse than in Manchester. And in a worst case scenario, he is facing a four year ban from football.

It was reported today by Corriere dello Sport and Sportmediaset that Pogba was found positive on testosterone and is set to be suspended after traces of testosterone were found in his system after the game with Udinese. During the day, Italian anti-doping authorities (NADO) confirmed that Juventus midfielder has been provisionally suspended. And to make things even worse and ironic, he didn’t even play in that match, but was an unused substitute. So far, he played only 52 minutes of football as he came as a substitute against Bologna and Empoli. The procedure leaves some hope for the Frenchman, as he is about to be tested again, and only if he is positive during the second test, things could get worse. Within the next seven days, the B Sample will be analyzed by the same laboratory that checked the A Sample. If the positive test is confirmed, then the player is automatically suspended awaiting a verdict.

Should Pogba be found guilty, he will reportedly be investigated by the National Anti-Doping Tribunal, who could hand him a ban of up to two years, according to Sportmediaset. Should the tribunal prove that the alleged doping was intentional, the ban could then be extended to four years, it goes on. 2022 was a nightmare year for Pogba, but so far, 2023 is not any better either. On the contrary.
