Inter dominate in the Derby della Madonnina, trashing city rivals 5-1

Inter Milan are showing no signs of stopping, as Simone Inzaghi's boys have rushed to a sensational Derby della Madonnina triumph. The Nerazzurri tarnished their city archrival AC Milan 5-1 on Saturday night, mostly thanks to inspired Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who scored a brace at San Siro.

The Armenian international netted only five minutes into the match. Milan complained at two pushes in the build-up, but VAR checked and decided both were fair challenges.

The Rossoneri tried to bounce back promptly, but it were Inter going against the run of play.

Marcus Thuram got the ball in the counter-attack, thought for a second, cut inside Thiaw and blasted into the far top corner for 2-0.

Of course, it was still far from over, as Stefano Pioli's lot managed to pull one back in the second half. Giroud sparked the counter, Rafael Leao showed strength to hold off and surge past Darmian and then fired superbly away from Sommer for 2-1.

But Mkhitaryan stepped up again, to kill the game and suspense following a perfect team move. It started with a quick one-two passing in midfield after Calhanoglu won it back, a cross-field pass to Lautaro Martinez, who laid it off and Mkhitaryan finished it with a deflection off Thiaw.

Still, it was not over at San Siro, with Calhanoglu serving a cold vengeance with a late penalty to make it 4-1, and Frattesi put the cherry on top deep into stoppage time.
