Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder caused an unbelievable turn of events that ended in his team's defeat - just by kicking a ball!

Sometimes, it seems that we've seen everything possible in football and that the most popular sport in the world has nothing to offer anymore. Well, we couldn't have been more wrong, because the latest ridiculous example comes from the cradle of football, England.

Sheffield United finished the 2023/2024 campaign in the last Premier League position and were relegated back to the Championship. Despite sitting in one of two leading positions in England's second flight, which secured an instant return to the EPL for most of the last season, the Blades in the end gambled away the advantage, finished third, and lost in the play-off final to Sunderland, failing to earn promotion.

Consequently, the club fired manager Chris Wilder last June, only to get him back for his third stint just three months later, after his successor - and predecessor at the same time - Ruben Selles started the new campaign with six straight defeats!

Sheffield beat Oxford United on the road on Wilder's new debut, but in his first home game on the bench against Southampton last night, the tactician was involved in an absurd incident.

Namely, his team was 1-0 up when the referee's whistle announced the end of the first half. Wilder went towards the tunnel when he saw a ball just sitting there on the pitch, and decided to whack it as hard as he could, making a massive mistake, as the ball went into the stands and hit a fan!

Although the 58-year-old immediately apologized to the ill-fortunate supporter, and no matter how hard he tried to explain to the ref that it was just an accident, he was sent off!

To make matters worse, the Saints went on to make a comeback and beat Sheffield 2-1, while Wilder now faces a potential touchline ban!

As hard to believe as it gets, isn't it?
