W(h)at a horror for De Zerbi! Half a dozen conceded at Villa Park as Watkins shines with a hattrick

Unai Emery's boys dismantle Brighton as they rush to a brutal 6-1 statement win

Every Superman has his own kryptonite, the thing or place where his powers become useless and he gets crushed. Roberto de Zerbi is - no doubt there - a sensational gaffer, but even he gets brushed aside occasionally. And this Saturday, that was just the case at Villa Park, where Unai Emery and his team destroyed De Zerbi-ball primarily thanks to amazing Ollie Watkins (6-1).

The 27-year-old forward scored a hattrick, torning the Seagulls' defence into pieces and making Ansu Fati's maiden goal for Brighton totally irrelevant.

The hosts wrapped up the tie within the first 26 minutes. Watkins struck twice inside the box to make it 2-0 as the visitors' centre-back line struggled to get their head around. The opener was a consequence of an excellent team effort, while the second saw Watkins dribbling on the left flank before slotting it low near the right post.

Finally, when Estupinan accidentally netted in the wrong net just a minute or two later, it was apparent we were approaching a shocking outcome.

After the break, Brighton regrouped and fought back through Fati, which seemed like a possible turning point in the match. Alas, it was all but that.

Watkins presented himself again to seal a perfect hattrick and kill the game with plenty of time left on the clock. Ramsey's tremendous shot made what seemed to be a lovely conclusion to this Villa's amazing afternoon before Douglas Luiz put the cheery on top for a sensational win.
