Wepo fighting to break into KCB's first team next season

KCB right back Brian Wepo is working round the clock in the ongoing preseason training sessions as he seeks to win himself the ticket to the starting team in the new season.

Wepo has been starved of regular playing time since arriving at the club in January last year from Nzoia Sugar as KCB technical bench has an high affinity for Kenyan international Baraka Badi.

However, the national U23, Emerging Stars player says he is determined to convince coach Zedekiah Otieno that he is ripe for playing time in the new season set to kick off later in the month.

Wepo revealed that he had opted to train harder in the sessions as well as implement the lessons he observed from his teammates for the time he has been warming the bench.

"I desperately want to play regularly in the new season. I wasn't involved much in the past campaign but I want to flip the script this time round. I am pushing myself hard in training and doing everything to the best of my ability to be ready for the new season. With good preparation, it will be easier for me to compel the coach to play me when he gives me the opportunity, " he said.

Besides angling at playing time, the former national U20, Rising Stars right back said the team had stepped up its sessions as they seek to pick from where they left and win the title.

The bankers narrowly lost the crown to Tusker but Wepo feels that this time round the league title will be theirs to lose as they are polishing their weak areas.

"We came close to the title last season but slipped when it mattered most. It's a mistake we don't want to repeat in the new season. Everyone is giving his best for the task ahead," he added.
