KCB right back hoping to guide bankers to their first league title, eyes a slot in the Emerging Stars squad

KCB and former Rising Stars right back Brian Wepo will be pursuing to kill two birds with one stone once the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) resumes.

The versatile player has revealed that he will be seeking to help the bankers win their maiden league title as well as nail a place in the Emerging Stars squad set to participate in the revived CECAFA U23 tournament in July.

The championship is scheduled to run between July 3-18 in Ethiopia.

Last week, the regional body announced a raft of changes in its competitions department, abolishing the Senior Challenge Cup for the revamped U23 tournament which was formed back in 2014 as a way of giving East African teams a platform to prepare for the 2016 Olympics.

Wepo who was part of the Rising Stars squad which clinched silver in the 2019 edition held in Uganda said he was anxiously waiting for the return of football to not only help KCB pick from where they left but to impress the U23 technical bench.

Before the March 25 presidential decree, KCB were placed second with thirty points, six shy of league leaders Tusker who had played an extra match.

"I pray that we will be given the green light to resume soon for me to chase my aspirations. The biggest of all is to assist my team attain the objectives set before the season began and earn a call to the U23 team for the CECAFA tournament," he said.

The former Nzoia Sugar lauded the regional body for rekindling the championship which he observed that will give players a chance to market themselves.

Wepo who believes that playing in the U20 team opened him the door to joining KCB tipped a handful of players to secure lucrative deals abroad courtesy of showcasing their talents in the forthcoming competition.

"Almost all of the 2019 U20 players got better deals after the tournament and I expect many to benefit from the one set for Ethiopia. It will give players an opportunity to expose their skills," he said.

Wepo in the meantime disclosed his intentions of following the footsteps of his former schoolmates Joseph Okumu and Eric 'Marcelo' Ouma who currently ply their trade in the Swedish top tier.
