Moises Caicedo will stay at Amex Stadium until 2027, despite writing an open letter to the club's board to sell him

Moises Caicedo has signed a new long-term contract at Brighton and Hove Albion until 2027 - just weeks after pleading for a move to Arsenal.

The 21-year-old was the Gunners' top target, but the deal is definitely off after two failed bids from Arsenal in January.

Caicedo even sent Seagulls chairman Tony Bloom an open letter to sell him, but his plea fell on deaf ears.

Speaking to the club's website, Brighton boss Roberto Di Zerbi said:

"This is fantastic news for the club, our fans, for me and most importantly for Moises.

"It will make us stronger as we move forward towards our targets on the pitch."

Caicedo's previous deal was to expire in 2025, with Arsenal being highly interested in bringing him to the Emirates sooner or later.

It had been claimed that Gunners manager Mikel Arteta had eyed up Caicedo as well as Declan Rice as part of a major squad overhaul.

Caicedo linked up with Brighton from Independiente del Valle in his native Ecuador in February 2021. He was then shipped off on loan to Belgian side Beerschot for the first half of the 2021/22 season before being recalled later in the campaign.
