Nsubuga, who joined the Glamour Boys in September to bolster their attacking options, has already shown flashes of brilliance in his first few outings.
The left-footed playmaker was unveiled alongside a host of new faces, including Brian Olega, Wycliffe Awiko, Dunson Kiprono, Justus Munika, Gilbert Abala, Derrick Otieno, Kevin Musamali, David Obasanjo, Biron Otieno, Humphrey Obino, and Caleb Omondi.
He is renowned for his set-piece mastery and ability to operate on either wing or just behind the striker. Nsubuga’s arrival has injected creativity and dynamism into Shabana’s frontline, and he wasted no time proving his worth.
The dreadlocked midfielder made his debut against Bandari, coming on as a substitute for Ezekiah Omuri, and immediately made an impact by setting up Brian Michira for the winning goal.
His clever no-look passes and confident touches have quickly caught the attention of fans.
In their next match against Tusker FC, Nsubuga came on early, in the 17th minute, and within two minutes, assisted Austin Odongo to put Shabana ahead. Together with Omuri, he was instrumental in stretching Tusker’s defense and creating chances in wide areas.
Speaking after the game, coach Okidi could not hide his admiration for the midfielder, but also challenged him to push harder.
“He is a great guy, but he has not given us the 100% we want. We want more from him, and he is a guy that we expect to carry the team.
With his abilities, we have so much belief in him. It was a good signing for us, we got something special,” Okidi said.
Despite the coach’s satisfaction with Nsubuga’s performances, Okidi admitted that the team fell short of their short-term target before the international break.
“We wanted to go into the break with at least nine points because we train and we believe in ourselves. Last season, we were out of title contention because we dropped such points.
We wanted to get maximum points, and that is why the team’s mood is a bit low. But we will recover those points in the home match,” he offered.
Looking ahead, the tactician believes the international break will be crucial for Shabana’s regrouping and recovery.
“It will give us time to recover some players like Michira, and help us work on mistakes such as our second-half impact in attack.
We will go back, train more, and when we return for our home match, we will be keen to take all the points,” he said.
