The Kenyan midfielder scored his first goal for Galway United this season.

Kenyan midfielder Wilson Waweru notched his first goal of the season to help his Galway United side to a 2-1 win over Treaty United in Irish top-tier match while his counterparts Henry Meja and Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma featured in AIK’s 3-2 defeat to Malmo FF in the Swedish Cup.

Wilson Waweru

The Kenyan midfielder featured for his second game after picking up a red card against Cork City and made amends by scoring in the 2-1 win over Treaty United in the Irish second tier.

Waweru needed just five minutes to break the deadlock for Galway United to register his first goal for the club since October 2021 in the 1-0 win over Bray Wanderers.

Galway United doubled their lead a minute before the halftime whistle through Stephen Walsh who turned the Treaty United defenders inside out before chipping the ball home.

Enda Curran pulled one back for Treaty United in the 69th minute to set up a tense finale to the match but Galway United held on for the 2-1 win.

Meja and Marcelo

Kenyan duo of Henry Meja and Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma featured for AIK as they were knocked out of the Swedish Cup following a 3-2 loss at the hands of Swedish champions Malmo FF.

Marcelo was handed a start in the clash with the first half being a drab encounter as both teams saw little goalmouth action.

The game burst to life in the 51st minute when Nabil Bahoui handed AIK the lead when he placed the ball into the bottom right corner from just inside the 18-yard area.

Sebastian Nanasi restored parity for Malmo six minutes later when he sneaked into the back post to slot the ball home through a tap in.

Malmo pulled ahead for the first time in the clash when Niklas Moisander turned the ball into the net after a goalmouth melee but still required a bit of fortune as the ball cannoned off the post in the 72nd minute.

Bahoui sealed his brace three minutes later as he guided the ball home after some brilliant work by Amar Abdirahman who took on defenders on the right flank.

After the 2-2 draw, the game proceeded to extra time with Veljko Birmancevic putting Malmo in the lead in the 105th minute via the penalty spot after a handball by Per Karlsson.

Meja was introduced in the 106th minute for Bahoui but could not have an effect on the game with Malmo now set to face Frank Odhiambo’s Djurgården in the Swedish Cup semi-final.
