The match is part of Southampton's celebrations marking 50 years since their famous 1976 FA Cup final victory over Manchester United, a triumph that remains the Saints’ only FA Cup success.
Wanyama returns to the south coast, where he played between 2013 and 2016 and became a firm fans’ favourite for his dominant midfield displays.
The 34-year-old's involvement comes at a significant moment in his career. The experienced midfielder, who has been without a club since leaving Scottish outfit Dunfermline Athletic back in July 2025, recently revealed that a persistent injury could soon bring his playing days to an end.

👹 Wes Brown
Two BIG names confirmed for March's Legends Match 🔐
“Maybe soon I will stop playing because of the injury. Soon I will hang my boots,” Wanyama said.
Manchester United Legends have also confirmed former defender Wes Brown, together with iconic strikers Dimitar Berbatov and Louis Saha, with more notable names expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Southampton will have former defensive lynchpin José Fonte and Rickie Lambert, who helped the club earn promotion to the English Premier League back in 2012, joining Wanyama in the legends match.
The fixture revisits the dramatic 1976 FA Cup final at Wembley. After a turbulent spell that saw United crowned European champions in 1968 before being relegated in 1974, Tommy Docherty’s side finished third in Division One following promotion in 1975 and were widely viewed as reborn.
However, it was Southampton’s day as an 83rd-minute strike from Bobby Stokes secured a famous 1-0 victory.
On Saturday, 28 March, the Saints and United legends will reunite to honour the players who defined that historic cup run, the supporters who experienced it, and the legacy that has endured for generations.
