The official unveiling took place on Friday, 1 August, in a ceremony attended by three celebrated African football legends.

Representing East Africa on the continental stage, former Harambee Stars captain and ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama was joined by 2017 African-based Player of the Year and nine-time Premier Soccer League champion Denis Onyango of Uganda and Tanzania’s record scorer and most capped player, Mrisho Ngasa, in presenting the new silverware.

"The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has unveiled the new trophy for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), PAMOJA 2024, in a reveal that featured three of the continent’s most celebrated football icons – Victor Wanyama (Kenya), Denis Onyango (Uganda) and Mrisho Ngasa (Tanzania),” CAF confirmed in an official statement.

The new trophy design is a striking blend of gold and silver, symbolising both the growing prestige and inclusive spirit of the CHAN tournament, which features players drawn exclusively from domestic leagues.

At the heart of the cup lies a map of Africa, a powerful emblem reflecting the competition’s pan-African identity and purpose.

Encircling the trophy are 54 engraved lines, each representing a CAF member association. This design element embodies unity, diversity, and progress, values at the core of CHAN PAMOJA 2024.

According to CAF, each line also signifies the unique journey of African football, shaped by generations of talent, passion, and unwavering ambition.

This year’s edition, themed Pamoja (Swahili for “together”), marks a historic milestone as CHAN is co-hosted for the first time by three East African nations — Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The month-long tournament officially kicks off on Saturday, 2 August, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, where hosts Tanzania will take on Burkina Faso in the opening match, preceded by a grand opening ceremony.

The tournament will climax on Saturday, 30 August, with the final and closing ceremony scheduled to take place at the iconic Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

The 2024 edition comes with heightened stakes. CAF increased the prize money amount to be won with this edition's winner set to pocket a record-breaking $3.5 million (approximately Ksh455 million).
