Gor Mahia head coach Vaz Pinto has opened up on his CAF Confederations Cup targets this season.
Gor Mahia head coach Manuel Vaz Pinto has laid bare his targets in the CAF Confederations Cup this season ahead of their do or die two-legged clash against Napsa Stars.
K’Ogalo face the Zambian Cup champions Napsa Stars in the Play-Offs of Africa’s second-tier club competition on Sunday 14 February.
Vaz Pinto is looking to end Gor Mahia’s one-season hiatus from the Confederations Cup with a victory over Napsa Stars and seal a group stages berth.
“We have goals in this competition, our main goal is to get into the group stage and of course I believe we can do that because the players have performed well in training.
“We also plan to win the tournament but like I said before we first have to get into the group stages those are the big goals this season,” said Pinto.
Gor Mahia have endured 34 years without tasting continental success with the last trophy coming back in 1987 when they beat Esperance on away goals rule to clinch the Mandela Cup.
K’Ogalo are the only Kenyan side to have featured in the group stages of the Confederations Cup after making their maiden appearance back in 2017 and repeated the feat the following season.
Having registered mixed results, drawing in the Mashemeji Derby against arch-rivals AFC Leopards and a shock loss to Vihiga United, Pinto noted that he is not feeling the heat at Gor.
“Our focus is our plan, we focus on growing as a team. I do not focus on results and because of that, I do not feel the pressure. I know the results are important because it is not only for Gor Mahia but to the football of Kenya,” added the tactician.
The clash against Napsa Stars is slated for a 3 PM kick-off at the Nyayo Stadium behind closed doors.
