Former Gor Mahia defender David Calabar Owino is aiming to impress Harambee Stars coach Ghost Mulee as Napsa Stars take on K'Ogalo on Sunday.

Kenyan international David Calabar Owino is aiming to restore Harambee Stars head coach Jacob Ghost Mulee’s faith in him with an impressive performance against Gor Mahia on Sunday 14 February.

Calabar’s Zambian side Napsa Stars take on reigning Kenyan champions Gor Mahia in the CAF Confederations Cup Play-Offs with a place in the group stages of the tourney at stake.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Calabar who will be facing K'Ogalo for the first time since leaving back in 2015 his hoping to use the clash to earn him a place in the Harambee Stars squad.

“It feels great, as a player coming into this game, a lot is at stake, we want to qualify as Napsa, my national team coach will be there I'm sure, he wants to see what I can do. I just have to focus and give my best,” he said.

Calabar was in the Harambee Stars squad that registered dismal performances against Comoros in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers back in November and is hoping to right the wrongs when Kenya face Egypt and Togo in March.

The 32-year-old came on as a second-half substitute in the 1-1 draw against The Islanders at home and started the disastrous 2-1 loss at home that dimed Harambee’s chances in the tournament.

The defender still harbors respect for Gor Mahia and noted that he would not celebrate if he managed to notch a goal against them on Sunday.

“I do not think I will celebrate because I have a lot of respect for Gor Mahia they are responsible for who I am today, I moved from Gor to Zambia and they gave me the blessing on the transfer and the rest is history," he said.

“This is a profession, I moved from Gor Mahia where I was for three years, now I'm at Napsa Stars. I think as a player what matters is to do your best for the current team that you are playing for,” added Calabar.

Napsa Stars also have some Kenyan connection in the team with former Gor Mahia custodian Shaban Odhoji in their books.

The clash is slated for a 3 PM kick-off at the Nyayo Stadium with fans barred from entering the clash.
