Florian Plettenberg reports that the French centre-back has rejected the Bavarians' contract extension, which probably means he'll be sold in the January Transfer Window
Storm clouds are gathering over Munich. Dayot Upamecano has rejected Bayern's first proposal for a new long-term contract, according to Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg.
The French defender's current deal runs at the end of the season, and the Bavarians' initial offer didn't come close to his financial expectations. That leaves the Bundesliga giants in a tight spot: unless an agreement is reached soon, Upamecano will be free to negotiate with other clubs from January - and Liverpool are already more than eager to get him.
At 26, valued around €50 million, Upamecano remains a key figure in Vincent Company's defense, starting seven of Bayern's eight competitive matches this season and playing every minute of France's recent World Cup qualifiers.
But with Kim Min-jae, Jonathan Tah, and the recovering Hiroki Ito also in the squad, Bayern could decide to cash in the January Transfer Window rather than risk losing him for nothing.
Xabi Alonso's Real Madrid? Manchester United? No, it's Liverpool who are said to be watching developments closely. Jurgen Klopp's successors at Anfield Arne Slot sees the powerful centre-back as a perfect Premier League fit.
For now, Bayern insist negotiations are "ongoing", but if no breakthrough comes soon, the countdown to a January exit has begun.
