Thing'o and Mudenyu trained with the soldiers last week.
Former AFC Leopards duo of Peter Thiong'o and Robert Mudenyu will not be joining the Ulinzi Stars despite training with the team last week.
Thiong’o fell out with the Leopards hierarchy towards the end of last season, leading to the decision to axe him when his contract elapsed. A decision by a section of the players to stage a go-slow over salary arrears resulted in Thiong’o and captain Eugene Mukangula losing leadership positions at the club before they were eventually edged out.
The two are currently free agents and were hoping to reunite with coach Anthony Kimani at the Ulinzi Stars after training with the team for a couple of days. This will, however, not materialize after the military outfit opted not to hand them deals, and the two will now be looking for new homes ahead of the new season.
"They will not be joining Ulinzi Stars. They were hoping to earn deals with the club, but it has proved difficult, and they have now left the team's pre-season camp. Coach Kimani has already made a decision regarding the players he's going to sign," a source close to the duo told Mozzart Sport.
Thiong'o, a winger, has previously played for Kakamega Homeboyz. Mudenyu, a central defender, is an ex-Sony Sugar and Muhoroni Youth FC player.
The other players who have been training with the soldiers and could be recruited include keeper Michael Wanyika, midfielders Nicholas Omondi, Ben Stanley Omondi, and Faraj Ominde, and winger Benjamin Mosha.
Ulinzi commence their season with a match against Nzoia Sugar FC at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.
