Bayern's supremo talked again about Wirtz's bad season in Liverpool
For years, Bayern Munich used their supremacy in German football in order to get the best domestic talent into their club, and it worked. Brightest German stars just rushed to the Allianz Arena like sheep whenever Uli Hoeness or Karl-Heinz Rummenigge called, sometimes even leaving their boyhood clubs without any fee. This June however, one future star decided not to go to Munich but rather to Liverpool. He broke the unwritten ‘rule‘ and angered Bayern‘s management. When Florian Wirtz‘s father informed Bayern‘s supremo over the phone that his son chose Liverpool, it was a shock. The Bavarians tried to look cool, but we are near the end of 2025 and they are still talking about Wirtz (and Woltemade).
As per Bild (and Fabricio Romano), Bayern‘s honorary president was asked again about Wirtz, and he couldn‘t hide his bitternes (again) and talked about Liverpool and alleged Slot‘s promise to the former Leverkusen player.
“They spent 500 million pounds and are having a disastrous season. In my opinion, that's because they only have superstars. I always say: Liverpool will soon have to play with five balls because the stars won't give up any of them. Poor Florian Wirtz, he doesn't even get a ball because Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai and all the others want to play with their own. Slot promised Wirtz something that he's now clearly not keeping: building the new team around him with no. 10 shirt. That was rubbish. He got the number 7 shirt, and the new team is clearly not playing around Florian Wirtz. I feel terribly sorry for Florian Wirtz. Everything went through him in Leverkusen. In Liverpool, he gets five passes in a half – and if he loses the ball twice, he gets a bad rating“ said Hoeness.
