Kenyan midfielders Tobias Otieno and Philip Mayaka are on the brink of tasting title success in the US after their respective teams booked a place in the league playoff finals.
Tobias Otieno
The former Gor Mahia midfielder who celebrated his 24th birthday on Tuesday capped his wonderful week with victory after his Tormenta side edged Greenville Triumph SC in the United Soccer League (USL) League One.
The victory will now see Tormenta square it out against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC in the League One final on Monday 7 November and will have the privilege of hosting the final at home.
Tobias will be looking to claim back-to-back League One titles after winning last time out with Union Omaha before making the move to Tormenta at the beginning of the season.
Kazaiah Sterling’s lone goal nearing the end of the first half sealed the club’s fifth consecutive win at home as Tormenta FC booked their maiden final in history.
Philip Mayaka
The Kenyan midfielder saw his Switchbacks FC side book a place in the United Soccer League (USL) Championship Western Conference Final following a 2-1 win over Sacramento Republic.
Switchbacks had Michee Ngalina to thank after his brace which included a goal in extra time canceled out Rodrigo Lopez’ opener and helped the side book a place in their first-ever Conference final.
Mayaka missed the match but will be hoping to make a return in the Conference final which a victory will see them advance to the overall finals of the league.
