After twice saving Highway Secondary School’s blushes, Paul Okumu is on the radar of two clubs following his impressive performances in the school games.

The custodian saved a couple of penalties in their clash against giants Dagoretti High School in the Nairobi region games and saved a spot kick against Kisumu Day High School to book a place in the East Africa School Games.

The shot stopper revealed that two clubs are chasing his signature as he went on to name former AFC Leopards custodian John Oyemba as his role model in the country.

“There is a coach from Murang’a Seal who approached me to open talks and an official from Ulinzi Stars also inquired about my services.

I looked up to John Oyemba until he left Sharks for AFC Leopards and internationally I admire Manchester United’s goalkeeper David De Gea and I hope to play for the club one day,” said Okumu.

Highway started their East Africa Games with a 1-1 draw against Tanzania’s Kiwira Secondary School after qualifying for the games by getting to the finals of the national school games.

Okumu who turns out for the Kariobangi Sharks youth team has a knack of saving penalties and revealed that his prowess is down to putting in an extra shift in training and his coach.

“What makes me good in penalties is frequent training and my coach, Caleb. I wake up early in the morning on days I don’t have classes and he trains me 8 to 10 am.

I developed my interest in football after watching Kenyan teams play, especially Sharks and joined the club’s academy in 2015,” added Okumu.
