Two Burkinabes, two Algerians and two Ghanaians make out All-African Team of the Week

Goalkeeper

BONO (Sevilla/Morocco)

It's not an excellent period for Sevilla. They changed coaches early in the season, bringing back Jorge Sampaoli. While they're searching for the right form, the draw against city rivals Real Betis was a fine result to get them going. Bono didn't keep a clean sheet, but he was a steady presence for Los Nervionenses.

Defence

DANIEL AMARTEY (Leicester/Ghana)

A month ago, Leicester probably wouldn't be able to defeat Everton. The Foxes were in terrible form but bounced back, and so was Amartey. The Ghanaian defender played all 90 minutes in Liverpool and won every duel he had, and had a pass accuracy of over 99%. Otto Addo will be pleased.

EDMOND TAPSOBA (Leverkusen/Burkina Faso)

One of the most consistent performers in this season's Bundesliga, Tapsoba kept a clean sheet in his team's imposing 5-0 victory over table-toppers Union Berlin. The centre-back remains ever-present for the BayArena team.

YOUCEF ATAL (Nice/Algeria)

The Algerian right-back helped his team to a 1-0 win over Stade Brestois before he was substituted off ten minutes from time. Let's be honest - it wasn't a stellar performance by any means. But he did his job. And sometimes, that's quite enough.

Midfield

IDDRISU BABA (Mallorca/Ghana)

Playing between the backline and midfield, the 26-year-old Ghanaian provided a great base for his team to a terrific 2-0 win over Villareal in La Liga. Baba spent his entire professional career with the club from Palma de Mallorca and is proving a solid asset for the team that's currently comfortable in mid-table. The victory at El Madrigal will undoubtedly give them a huge morale boost.

YOUSSEF BELAILI (Troyes/Algeria)

They love Belaili so much in Algeria that they projected his game against PSG two weeks ago in the local cinema! He didn't score against the Parisians or Auxerre the week after, but he scored two against Strasbourg this Saturday. He missed a penalty, but let's not get too picky, as Ajjacio still won the game 4-2.

MOHAMED CAMARA (Monaco/Mali)

The steady midfielder is proving to be the best Monaco transfer this June. Malian had another perfect display in Toulouse, commanded his area, won many duels for his teammates, and had 68 touches and even one big chance.

DANGO OUATTARA (Lorient/Burkina Faso)

Another Burkinabe player in our selected XI, young winger Dango continued his fine form and produced a fine display against superior opposition in PSG. Despite the result that went 2-1 in favour of the Parisians, the Burkinabe was one of the best players on the pitch.

Attack

VICTOR OSIMHEN (Napoli/Nigeria)

Guess who never gets out of this list? The Nigerian scored again, this time (only) one goal, but it was the equalizer against Atalanta, after which his teammate Elmas scored the winner for Napoli, who continue their defeats run in Serie A. How long will they continue to play like this? If Osimhen is in form, certainly for a long time.

MOHAMED SALAH (Liverpool/Egypt)

The Egyptian is even in better form than Osimhen. Salah has now scored in 7 out of the last eight games in all competition for the Reds, and he failed to score in only one game when Liverpool lost to Nottingham 1-0. He continued his fantastic streak this week, too, scoring a brace against Tottenham. The Egyptian single-handedly defeated Conte's Spurs and deserved his place on our list.

ERIC MAXIM CHOUPO-MOTING (Bayern/Cameroon)

Lewandowski who? After the Pole left the club, Bayern tried to play with different scorers but then the Cameroonian burst and cannot be stopped now. He scored two goals in the space of one minute, and he is averaging a goal every 75 minutes, with only Erling Haaland scoring at a higher frequency in Europe's top-five leagues in 2022-23.
