However, in a rare gesture of goodwill, the Brewers pledged to continue footing the player’s medical expenses as he recovers from a knee injury.
Tusker FC have confirmed the departure of midfielder John Njuguna following the expiry of his contract, bringing an end to his three-year spell with the 12-time FKF Premier League champions.
In a statement released on Monday, the Ruaraka-based club announced that they had opted against renewing Njuguna’s deal, which had been extended for a further year in July 2023.
However, in a rare gesture of goodwill, the Brewers pledged to continue footing the player’s medical expenses as he recovers from a knee injury.
Njuguna, who sustained a medial meniscus tear toward the end of last season, underwent surgery three months ago and is currently in rehabilitation.
“John Njuguna will leave us at the expiry of his contract. However, the club will continue to fully support the medical costs as he recovers from knee surgery. Thank you for everything, Njugush, and all the best for the future,” the club posted on its social platforms.
A product of the Tusker youth setup, Njuguna rejoined the senior side in September 2021 on a two-year deal after four seasons with Ulinzi Stars, having initially broken through the Brewers’ academy. Following the expiry of his initial contract, Tusker extended his stay for an additional year.
His exit now brings Tusker’s list of off-season departures to ten. Among them are Ugandan trio John Byamukama, Boban Zirintusa, and Deogratious Ojok, alongside James Kibande, Luke Namanda, David Odoyo, Mike Oduor, and Lawrence Luvanda. Defender Yussuf Mainge has also returned to Kenya Police after completing his loan spell.
Despite the high turnover, the Brewers have moved swiftly to reinforce their squad. Headlining the arrivals is two-time FKF-PL Most Valuable Player and top scorer Eric Kapaito.
Tusker have also secured the services of Nairobi City Stars duo Vincent Owino and Dennis Oalo, Bidco United’s central pair Eugene Ikutwa and Francis Oduor, former Ulinzi Stars winger Yakeen Muteheli, and most recently, Curtis Wekesa from Posta Rangers.
