Tusker have lost four of their last five games.
Tusker FC assistant captain Michael Kibwage is confident that the team will bounce back from its torrid run, a run that leaves the club in the 13th position, an unfamiliar territory for the 12-time champions.
Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Murang’a Seal in Murang’a was the Brewers’ fourth in five games, and pressure on underfire coach Robert Matano is intensifying with his job seriously on the line. The tactician had been warned that he would be fired if he did not beat Gor Mahia a fortnight ago before the club backtracked on its earlier stance and retained him even after going down by a solitary goal.
Kibwage, one of the leaders in the team, believes that the bad run will soon come to a halt and that the Ruaraka-based club will rise again.
“We are experiencing some challenging moments, but I am confident that we will soon bounce back to top form," the former KCB and Sofapaka captain told Tusker FC media.
He added that they have to start making the home advantage count by picking wins at their Ruaraka backyard. The last game they played at the venue ended in a 1-0 loss to the Ulinzi Stars a week ago.
"The goals we've conceded have been unfortunate, but we are determined to bounce back. We must capitalize on our home-field advantage, as many teams this season have been victorious on their own ground. We too must harness this benefit."
Reflecting on Sunday’s loss to Murang’a Seal, the defender rued dropping points in a cruel manner in a game that he believes they gifted the home team the points through a defensive error.
“The loss was disheartening, especially since we began with such a high tempo and dominated most of the first half. However, a single blunder after our initial goal gave our opponents the boost they needed."
Up next for them is a match against the Nairobi City Stars, and he understands that the bogey Simba wa Nairobi can be problematic.
“We are aware of their momentum, especially after their last win against the AFC Leopards. This undoubtedly serves as inspiration for them, and we recognize that facing them will not be easy."
