Substitute David Okoth’s decisive brace and a moment of brilliance from Isaac Omweri overturned Erick Kapaito’s first-half opener, handing head coach John Kamau a morale-boosting victory as the Slum Boys seek to claw their way from relegation danger.

With maximum points crucial for both sides, Tusker eager to revive their dwindling title hopes and Mathare desperate to climb from the lower reaches, the match began at a relentless tempo.

Tusker threatened as early as the eighth minute when Erick Kapaito tested the wall from a free kick.

The Brewers continued to dictate proceedings, with captain Charles Momanyi coming close from a Vincent Owino corner.

Keeper Kevin Ouru produced a superb reflex punch to deny the defender’s powerful volley, while Stephen Etyang’s follow-up narrowly missed the target.

Owino and Kapaito remained central to Tusker’s attacking thrust, both spurning promising openings, while Eugene Ikutwa’s ambitious effort from range failed to trouble the scoreboard.

Mathare, though under pressure, showed flashes of intent.

Isaac Omweri glided past his marker only to see his volley drift wide, before John Mark Makwatta squandered a clear opportunity moments later.

Tusker’s persistence finally paid off six minutes before halftime.

A swift counterattack saw Etyang release Thomas Omole at the back post, whose intelligent header across goal found Kapaito.

The two-time FKF Premier League Golden Boot winner made no mistake, nodding home to give the Brewers a deserved lead.

Collins Odhiambo thought he had doubled the advantage at the stroke of halftime, but his effort was ruled out for offside, leaving Tusker narrowly ahead at the break.

Tusker resumed brightly after the interval, with Omole striking the upright in a warning sign of their continued threat.

However, the match pivoted five minutes before the hour mark when John Kamau introduced David Okoth and Harrison Amalemba.

The substitutions injected urgency and directness into Mathare’s approach.

Okoth signalled his intent seven minutes past the hour mark, narrowly missing after latching onto Omweri’s incisive pass.

Two minutes later, he would not be denied.

Rising highest to meet Musa Masaka’s lofted delivery from a short corner routine, Okoth powered home the equaliser.

Barely had the celebrations subsided when Mathare seized control entirely.

Omweri, lively throughout, unleashed a sublime strike to hand the Slum Boys a dramatic turnaround lead and register his maiden goal for the club.

Tusker pushed desperately for parity, with Kapaito striking wide from distance before rattling the crossbar late on.

Yet their spirited efforts yielded no reward; instead, it was Mathare who struck the final blow.

A fierce drive from Mike Oduor forced a parry from goalkeeper Brian Opondo, only for Okoth to react quickest and slot home his second of the evening, sealing an emphatic victory.

The result halts Mathare’s winless run and injects belief into their survival bid.

For Tusker, the defeat extends their struggles, leaving them adrift in their pursuit of a 13th league title.

Posta Rangers 0-2 Shabana FC

Elsewhere at Wanguru Stadium, Shabana FC delivered a composed 2-0 victory over Posta Rangers FC to surge back into third place.

A goal from new signing Mambote Batshi Assis and an own goal by defender Dimpol Omamo secured maximum points for the Kisii-based outfit.

The win moves Shabana to 34 points, trimming the gap to league leaders Gor Mahia FC to six as they continue their pursuit of a historic first FKFPL title, while for Rangers it left them hovering near the relegation zone.
