Heading into the encounter, Ingwe knew victory would trim the deficit on the league leaders to a single point, a psychological boost in their pursuit of a 13th league crown and an end to a 28-year title drought stretching back to 1998.
The urgency was further heightened by their recent shock elimination by lower-tier side BB Bread in the Mozzart Bet Cup Round of 64, a setback that had amplified pressure on the Den.
Bandari, equally driven, were intent on closing in on the summit and reigniting their ambition of clinching a historic maiden league title.
The stage was set for a contest laden with narrative and consequence.
The match burst into life almost immediately, both sides trading early attacks in a frantic search for an opener.
Just four minutes in, former Bandari winger James Kinyanjui nearly haunted his former employers.

Latching onto a precise through ball from Tyson Otieno, the speedy winger raced clear but directed his close-range effort straight at goalkeeper Allaine Ngeleka, who reacted swiftly to block.
The hosts responded five minutes later when captain Andrew Juma rose to meet Rajab Omar’s long throw, only for Humphrey Katasi to gather comfortably.
The tempo remained relentless. Samuel Sseyonjo squandered two promising openings for Leopards, first firing wide after connecting with Kinyanjui’s delivery, then miscuing from close range after being teed up by Bebeto Ronald in the 20th minute.
Bebeto himself rattled the side netting after capitalising on a defensive lapse involving Clifford Ouma.
Bandari threatened in spells. Frank Ouya arrived late to miss a teasing cross from Naaman Balecho, while new signing Bertrand Konfor, the Cameroonian forward formerly of Gor Mahia, glanced a header narrowly wide from Darius Msagaha’s inviting ball.
As halftime approached, chances continued to flow.

Bebeto struck the foot of the woodwork following an intricate move involving Kelly Madada and Sseyonjo, while Konfor was later denied by a sprawling Katasi save after a slick move orchestrated by Geoffrey Ojunga and Ouya.
Tyson Otieno came closest for Ingwe before the break, his goal-bound effort brilliantly blocked by Shariff Majabe inside the six-yard box.
Ojunga nearly produced a moment of magic in added time, unleashing a long-range strike that whistled inches wide as the sides went into the interval locked at 0-0.
Bandari returned the livelier outfit after the restart. Msagaha twice threatened within ten minutes, bursting past his marker before blazing wide.
Konfor again tested Katasi with a towering header from a corner, but the Leopards custodian stood firm.
Ingwe sought a breakthrough through Tyson Otieno just past the hour mark, but Clifford Otieno tracked back diligently to intercept the final attempt.
With 22 minutes remaining, Leopards head coach turned to his bench, introducing Victor Otieno, Hassan Beja and Julius Masaba in a triple substitution designed to inject urgency.
The changes nearly bore fruit when Masaba combined neatly with Kayci Odhiambo, only to fire over the bar.
Samuel Semo later headed wide from Masaba’s delivery, while Bandari’s Ouya forced Katasi into a sharp save with a low effort inside the box.
In the closing stages, Victor Otieno’s darting run and strike were thwarted by Majabe as both defences held firm despite mounting late pressure.
The draw denied AFC Leopards a prime chance to apply pressure on Gor Mahia, who now retain a three-point cushion ahead of their clash against APS Bomet.
For a side chasing history and redemption, the dropped points may linger in the psychological margins of the title race.
Bandari, meanwhile, extended their winless run to two matches, a setback in their own pursuit of the summit, though their defensive solidity offered encouragement.
