The two Spanish giants are already locked in a fierce race for the Spaniard and the Portuguese star
The rivalry between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid appears set to spill over into yet another transfer saga.
Relations between the two Spanish heavyweights have been tense ever since Barcelona attempted to lure Julian Alvarez away from the capital earlier this summer. The Catalans reportedly submitted an offer worth around €100 million for the Argentine forward, only for Atletico to immediately reject it, pointing to the staggering €500 million release clause in his contract. The situation escalated further when Atletico responded with a series of mocking social media posts, leaving little doubt that tensions between the clubs had reached a new level.
Now, the battle is shifting to a different set of targets.
For months, Atletico believed they were leading the race for Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese playmaker became available after leaving Manchester City and was viewed as Diego Simeone's preferred solution in attacking midfield. However, recent developments suggest Barcelona have entered the picture in a serious way.
Spanish reports indicate that Silva has unexpectedly delayed making a final decision on his future until after the World Cup. That postponement could prove crucial for Barcelona, giving the club additional time to arrange the financial framework required to complete a deal.
There is growing confidence within the Catalan camp that the 31-year-old would favor a move to Camp Nou if given the opportunity. Silva has been admired by Barcelona for several years and remains one of the club's long-standing transfer priorities.
The competition between the two clubs does not end there.
Marc Cucurella has also emerged as a major target for both sides as uncertainty continues to surround his future at Chelsea. Atletico view the Spanish international as an ideal addition on the left side, while Barcelona are equally interested in bringing the defender back to the club where he developed through the famous La Masia academy.
Reports from Spain claim that a return to Barcelona would appeal to Cucurella, although Atlético are doing everything possible to sway the player's decision. Several Spanish internationals currently playing for the Madrid club have reportedly been involved in efforts to convince him to choose Atletico over their rivals. It is a strategy the club believes has worked successfully in previous transfer pursuits, including the signing of Julian Alvarez.
With both clubs targeting many of the same elite players, the relationship between Barcelona and Atletico is unlikely to improve anytime soon. If anything, the transfer battles involving Silva and Cucurella could make an already strained rivalry even more intense before the summer window closes.
