Trans Nzoia Falcons go top of the WKPL as Thika bag first win

Tumaini Waliaula's brace was enough to take her side Trans Nzoia Falcons top of the Kenyan Women Premier League (WPL) that entered its third round this weekend. 

Up against Wadadia, Tumaini found the back of the net twice to give the Kitale-based side a 2-1 victory against the visitors who bagged a consolation goal through Amida Wesonga. 

Wesonga gave the visitors an early lead, scoring the 13th minute. The match seemed like it would head to the break with Wadadia holding the slight advantage but Waliaula's 43rd minute goal evened the score. She added her's and the team's second in the 67th minute. 

Victory for Falcons in their third match of the season takes them tip of the 12-team league on six points, two ahead of Ulinzi Starlets, Zetech Sparks and Nakuru Queens. 

Falcons hold on to the lead until Sparks play their third match of the season on Sunday where they face defending champions Vihiga Queens in Mumias as the latter open their season. 

Meanwhile, former champions Thika Queens finally got their first points of the season, after losing their opening match, in a 4-2 victory over hosts Kisumu All Starlets. 

Former Harambee Starlets' skipper Wendy Achieng, in the 17th minute, leveled a Kisumu All Starlets 14th minute lead through Jecinter Nyambok. 

Achieng added her second three minutes to half time and in a downhill trajectory for the winless hosts, Stella Odhiambo gave Thika a 3-1 win in added time of the first half. 

The inform Wendy completed her hat-trick in the 57 minute of the match giving Thika a 4-1 advantage and providing Kisumu with an impossible mountain to climb for their first points of the season. 

Monica Etot's 62nd minute goal gave Kisumu slight hopes for a comebacks but the scoreline was not to be changed as the ten-man Thika, following a Georgina Karani red card, held on for victory.
