FKF Premier League debutants Mara Sugar FC have honoured their top performers following the conclusion of their historic maiden season, with defender Joseph Okwenda stealing the show during the club’s end-of-season awards ceremony.

Okwenda, who featured prominently throughout the campaign, was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) after a series of standout performances that helped the team secure its top-flight status.

The versatile defender not only marshalled the backline with authority but also chipped in with four goals, seven assists, ten clean sheets, and 32 appearances, a remarkable contribution for a player experiencing his first season in the top tier.

His exceptional consistency earned him double recognition, as he also clinched the Best Defender of the Season award, further underlining his influence on the team’s fortunes.

Despite facing the typical hurdles of a debut season, Mara Sugar managed to hold their own in the FKF-PL, finishing 14th on the log with 36 points, a respectable tally that ensured their survival. Their spirited run also saw them reach the semi-finals of the Mozzart Bet Cup, ending fourth in the competition.

The club used the event not only to celebrate results on the pitch but also to honour discipline, growth, and character across all departments. David Owino was named Best Midfielder, while also earning recognition for most matches played. Brian Ochieng took home the Most Disciplined Player award, with Felix Opiyo being feted as the Most Promising Youngster.

In goal, Felix Adoyo walked away with the Best Goalkeeper accolade, while Evans Omondi was recognised for conceding the least number of goals throughout the campaign.

Harun Thomas, a mid-season addition, was a major highlight among the new recruits, taking home both the Most Hard-Working Player and Best New Signing awards, proving instrumental in the club’s survival push. Fredrick Ngiela was named Most Improved Player, showcasing the depth of development happening within the club’s ranks.

The CEO’s Award went to Lameck Omondi, in recognition of his behind-the-scenes contributions, while several others were honoured for their unique roles in the club’s journey. Peter Okelo received the Unsung Hero award, Cheruiyot Dennis was feted for the Comeback of the Season, and Cyrus Oucho was celebrated for an Honorary Moment of the Season as a player.

Off the pitch, support staff were not left behind. Patrick Tarno and Dickson Musekenya were both acknowledged for their dedication, while Erick Ngiela was presented with the Club Loyalty Award.

In the technical department, Coach Edward Manoah, who guided the team to survival in a tense campaign, was recognised with an Honorary Coaching Moment of the Season, while Benedict Simiyu Wanjala was named Coach of the Season.
