Reading Time: 2min | Mon. 29.03.21. | 16:46

Harambee Stars and Togo have meet six times with the first coming back in 1972.

Harambee Stars have an identical record against Togo with both winning two and drawing twice but Kenya is yet to register a win against the West African side away from home.

Head coach Jacob Ghost Mulee will be looking to end his qualifying campaign by bagging his first win in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers which will come with some piece of history.

Harambee Stars and Togo had their first encounter back in 1972 in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament staged in Cameroon as both teams were placed in Group A.

The game ended in a 1-1 stalemate with Pele Ouma scoring for Kenya while Edmond Apéti equalized for Togo, both teams failed to qualify for the knockout stages as they finished with two points each.

The two teams had to wait for 30 years for their next counter which came in the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Kenya winning the home clash 3-0 with Musa Otieno, Dennis Oliech and John Baraza on the scoresheet.

Kenya lost the away clash 2-0 in 2003 courtesy of a brace from Alessandro Faria leaving them needing a point against Cape Verde to qualify for the tournament and Dennis Oliech’s goal sent them to the continental tourney.

Keeping with their tradition in the head-to-head encounter Kenya won their home clash in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers 2-1 with goals from Allan Wanga and James Situma with Abdoul-Razak grabbing the consolation goal.

Togo won the return clash 1-0 with a lone goal from Serge Gakpe and advanced to the Second Round on away goals rule.

The latest encounter between Togo and Kenya came back in 2019 in the latest AFCON qualifiers as Johanna Omolo’s goal was not enough to secure a win as Hakim Ouro-Sama equalized for The Sparrowhawks.

The clash on Monday will be a dead rubber match with Egypt and Comoros already filling the qualification slot in Group G but will be a good acid test for the two nations in their rebuilding phase.
