At last!

Kenyan midfielder Tobias Otieno was late last week voted the South Georgia Tormenta FC Player of the Month (USL League One) for October.

The award, which was his first since the league kicked off in March this year, is in recognition for his exemplary efforts over the course of last month’s games.

Otieno played every minute during the month of October for Tormenta and completed 90% of his passes in both matches (against former side Union Omaha and Charlotte Independence), while creating a single goal-scoring chance in the aforementioned fixtures.

The former Sony Sugar player also completed 21 passes into the final third, of which 14 came against the Independence.

He worked on the defensive side as well, winning eight duels against Omaha and nine against Charlotte.

Enroute to his win, Otieno earned 44.94% of the total vote, with Jackson Khoury coming in second with 25.32%.

Davey Mason followed closely behind Khoury with 21.85%, and Chris Heckenberg received 7.87% of the vote.

The votes were from three voting bodies including the Tormenta FC staff ballots that comprised 20 percent of the poll, media ballots comprising 20 percent of the poll, and a fan vote comprising the bigger bulk of the poll - 60 percent.

The last time the Kenyan was in the run-in for the award was in June, where teammate Heckenberg scooped the gong with 54.56% of the total vote.

He also missed out on the month of May award to Nick Akoto, but now seems to be enjoying his second season at the club after being recently included in Week 24’s USL League One Team of the Week.
