Otieno finished second in the vote

Kenyan midfielder Tobias Otieno missed on the August Player of the Month award at his club Tormenta FC, with defender Jack Dengler carrying the day as the former Gor Mahia midfielder came second.

Otieno had been nominated for the award alongside Dengler, English forward Kazaiah Sterling, and Ghanaian winger Kingsford Adjei but it was the defender who trounced over the three other nominees, thanks to a huge fan support on the fan vote.

"South Georgia Tormenta FC defender Jake Dengler was voted Tormenta FC Player of the Month for August. Dengler earned 73.15% of the total vote, with midfielder Tobias Otieno coming in second with 12.47%. Midfielder Kingsford Adjei and forward Kazaiah Sterling follow at 11.64% and 2.74%, respectively," the club posted.

The winner was determined on a weighted average drawn from the fan vote, Tormenta FC staff vote, and a media vote. The fan vote, a poll on the club's website, comprised 60 percent with the staff and media polls contributing to 20 percent each in the final decision.

Otieno was instrumental for the side towards the end of the month to help them end a three-match losing streak, contributing both defensively and offensively as he set up two goals in the month.

His two assists, for the first goal against Central Valley Fuego and for the second goal against Charlotte Independence, were the most by any player in the team on top of his defensive efforts.

His effort in the last match of the month against Charlotte Independence saw him named in the USL League One team of the week.
