The Gilgil-based side has had a strong start to the season, winning four and drawing one in their first five matches, thus sitting second on the league table with 13 points, two less than league leaders Kenya Police Bullets.

Speaking exclusively to Mozzart Sport, Wesonga took time to explain the factors behind their great start.

“The secret is training the team to be physically and tactically prepared for matches. We also receive enough motivation from our chairman and the director,” said Wesonga.

“Our salaries and bonuses therein are also paid on time, and so, with that sorted, it becomes easy for players to concentrate on football,” he added.

The former Wadadia tactician also listed the age of his players as a contributing factor to their success.

“We have averagely young players, with our oldest about 26 years, and this makes it easy for them to receive, understand and follow instructions,” he noted.

Despite their strong start to the season, Wesonga, who joined the club during the off-season, is not carried away, and maintains their target at the start of the season.

“We are targeting a top-four finish this season. It is my first season at the club, and so I wanted us to be easy on ourselves.

However, we are taking one game at a time and treating each as a final. Should other teams falter in the title push, we will definitely challenge for it," he remarked.

Wesonga has embraced possession-based football in the team and insists on his team playing from the back, exchanging short and quick passes as they create overloads in wide areas.

It is due to this style of play that he said influenced the change of their home matches venue from Trinity Complex to Comboni Polytechnic, which has a better playing surface as compared to the former.
