Things are about to get ugly - Bayern and Dortmund reject the European Super League!

Two German powerhouses deny their involvement and future engagement in the breakaway tournament

With all of its flaws and cons, the idea of the new Super League seemed almost a done-deal as recently as this morning. Those 12 European clubs determined to break away from the UEFA and follow its own trajectory seemed unstoppable and capable of attracting new slots in their portfolio.

However, the tables had turned around noon when Borrusia Dortmund's CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke announced that both Dortmund and Bayern Munich reject the proposition of the new, 'closed' league and will not take part in its establishment.

"Borrusia are part of a European Club Association (ECA) which rejects the idea of a Super League. Our views are 100% identical to those of FC Bayern. As far as I know, both clubs intend to stand by the agreed reforms to the Champions League. The clubs want to implement the planned reform of the UEFA Champions League. The plans to found a Super League have been rejected", Watzke said.

If it's true, then the newly established league will lack two major German sides, which could heavily endanger the probability of its success in the years to come.
