There can be only one: Madrid derby to decide who's the boss in Spanish capital

Two sides will face at Santiago Bernabeu (23.00), with Los Blancos looking to extend their solitude at the top of the table

The history of the Madrid derby officially began in 1929, when Atletico became a professional club. In that first game, Real won, and to this day, the statistics are convincingly on the side of Los Blancos: 146 wins, 68 draws and 69 defeats.

Over time, it turned out that the clichés about the conflict between a rich, powerful and modest, working-class team were established at the beginning of the century and are not so far from the truth.

The rivalry between the two clubs goes far beyond sport.

SUN: 23.00: (2.05) REAL MADRID (3.50) ATLETICO MADRID (3.90)

They differ in everything, their division is social, and their attitude towards life (and football) is opposite. Real Madrid fans are demanding, do not tolerate mistakes, are harsh in their criticism, and do not spare their own players. On the other hand, Atletico will never hear an ugly word from his supporters - self-sacrificing and loyal even in impossible situations. If you don't believe us, just bear in mind that not so long ago, they were second-tier side.

The last Atletico LaLiga win against their city rivals came as recently as February 2016. Since then, Real won four times, and there were six more draws. Suppose you add two more red and whites' losses to Real in the UCL finals. In that case, you'll probably come to a conclusion there's a sense of inferiority complex among the Wanda Metropolitano club.

Real Madrid are currently sitting comfortably at the top of the table, ten points above Atletico. They are on a six-games-long winning streak. They are heading towards the derby in high spirits, and a possible win could secure them a boring second part of the season, with a title being almost instantly confirmed.

In the last derby, the game ended in a stalemate, 1-1, with Benzema and Suarez on the scoresheet. However, both are returning from injury this time, and their starting XI placements are unsure.
