Madman Simeone comes crashing down after the maddest ten minutes at Wanda Metropolitano

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone got his nickname The Madman (El Cholo) during his playing days, but today everything was madder than the Argentine at Wanda Metropolitano as Atletico Madrid lost against La Liga new boys Real Mallorca.

The visitors from the island of Mallorca pulled a huge upset with two unlikely goals in the final ten minutes - including a shocking injury-time winner by Real Madrid loanee Takefusa Kubo.

Atletico came close to opening the scoring through Matheus Cunha early on as the visitors struggled to match Los Colchineros' pace. However, Mallorca started to adjust and play better once as the game went on.

Hermoso replaced Stefan Savic due to a hamstring injury in the 11th minute and Atleti were denied an opener shortly after when Angel Correa's volley from six yards was blocked by the chest of Jaume Costa.

Atletico pushed forward in the second half, and while they lacked creativity at times, they did enough to force Mallorca to play a bit deeper. The pressure led to a goal in the 68th minute when a cross from Correa found Cunha and the Brazilian struck the ball oddly, but found the goal nonetheless.

It all seemed to be going according to plan for El Cholo - but then it all turned on its head. Franco Russo equalized with a towering header following a free-kick with ten minutes remaining.

Eight of the 15 goals conceded by Atletico this season have come when they have been defending set-pieces - a worrying stat for the Madman, whose team used to be extremely well-organized at both attacking and defending set-pieces.

Russo's goal was a shock, but it wasn't the visitors' last say. Japanese forward Kubo came away as a hero with a stoppage-time strike past Jan Oblak. Atleti lost the ball and were punished by a clinical counter-attack. It was 1-2 at Metropolitano and there was no time left to at least salvage a point
