While the world crowns him Messi and Ronaldo's successor, Lamine Yamal insists on living like any other teenager
They force young footballers to grow up too fast. The ruthless world of professionalism demands it.
But the most famous teenager on the planet stubbornly refuses to stop being a kid.
At just 19, tactics are built around Lamine Yamal. Cameras chase him. Headlines orbit him. The world expects him to inherit the global throne from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Yet when the floodlights fade, he insists he's just... Lamine.
"I do what any 18-year-old guy does. I hang out with friends, look after my little brother, play PlayStation, go out for a walk… normal stuff," he told ESPN - almost as if defending himself from his own fame.
While many professionals live inside a bubble of analytics, video breakdowns and obsessive opponent study, Yamal chooses escape.
"I try not to focus only on football. I don't want to constantly think about matches or watch clips of the full-back I'll face. When I leave the pitch, I want to switch off."
His idea of a perfect childhood day? It sounds like something straight out of any neighbourhood kid's summer diary.
"I'd go have breakfast on a terrace, then play football in the park in the afternoon - maybe in Rocafonda - and then ride my bike or scooter with friends. Just normal things."
And perhaps the most powerful part of his story comes from before the millions. Before the contracts. Before the sponsors.
What changed when big money entered his life?
"When I was little, we couldn't afford a PlayStation or Nintendo. We played in the yard with Pokemon cards - a pack cost one euro. That's what's changed in recent years."
As for his culinary skills?
"I've given up on cooking. I'm terrible. I can maybe make chicken nuggets and fries."
The heir to football's global crown… who still burns dinner and misses being a kid. And maybe that's exactly why he's different.
