The legendary former midfielder has been back at the club since 2019

Claude Makelele, a true Chelsea legend, has bid farewell to his role as a technical mentor at the club. This marks the end of a chapter in his long association with the Blues.

Makelele, who amassed 217 appearances for Chelsea during his illustrious playing career, returned to the club in 2019, this time in a mentoring capacity. He nurtured and guided young talents within Chelsea's academy, primarily based at their state-of-the-art Cobham training facility. In addition to his work with the academy prospects, the former France international also played a vital role in monitoring the progress of young players sent out on loan to gain valuable experience elsewhere.

While his official departure from the coaching position is reported as a mutual decision, it marks the end of an era for Chelsea, especially considering Makelele's iconic status at the club. His influence extended beyond the training ground, as he was known to impart his wisdom and knowledge to aspiring footballers, helping them develop both on and off the pitch.

Makelele's departure comes at a time of change at Chelsea, as the club continues to evolve under new managerial leadership. However, his legacy remains firmly embedded in the club's history, and the Blues faithful will forever cherish his contributions as a player and mentor. It's another slice of the history made under the previous ownership of Roman Abramovich that's quietly been removed from the West London club.

His departure comes shortly after assistant coach Bruno Saltor also left the club.
