It looks like the Polish goalkeeper is set to sign a new contract with the Blaugrana

It appears that Wojciech Szczesny has come to a definitive conclusion regarding his future. The 35-year-old Polish international, whose current deal with FC Barcelona expires on June 30th, has been presented with a renewal offer from the club — reportedly a one-year extension with the possibility of an additional year (1+1 format). As reported from Poland, Szczesny is now expected to sign this new agreement in the near future.

According to Goal Polska journalist Piotr Kozminski, the experienced shot-stopper took a few days to consult with his family and reflect on his next steps before opting to remain with the Blaugrana. This decision comes even though he is fully aware that his role within the squad could diminish. With Marc-Andre ter Stegen back to full fitness and the club still targeting Espanyol’s Joan Garcia as a potential summer reinforcement, Szczesny may find himself playing more of a supporting role moving forward.

Still, with the goalkeeping picture at Barcelona yet to be finalized, nothing is certain. Inaki Pena, who filled in during Ter Stegen’s absence, is also rumored to be nearing the exit — though no official confirmation has been given regarding his status. The club’s plans for the position remain fluid, and until the transfer window progresses further, it’s difficult to predict how the hierarchy will ultimately shape up.

Nevertheless, Szczesny’s choice to stay, despite the potential reduction in game time, underscores both his professionalism and his willingness to contribute in any capacity the team requires.
